It was a long time coming, but Chester has finally hung up his horse
shoes.
Not literally, but certainly figuratively.
Last month, on Sept. 20, more than 80 guests turned out at the
Seguine Equestrian Center to wish the 25-year-old stable standout
a healthy and happy retirement.
Many of the guests were former students who learned to ride atop
Chester's sturdy back. They shared memories and recounted
countless stories about him.
Emily Deppe remembered arriving for a lesson one day with a candy
bar in her hand. As she turned toward her father while gesturing
toward Chester, the pony snatched her candy and downed it.
"What a cool pony," Emily remembers saying.
"Chester is the stable comedian," said Joann Mazzola, another
former rider. "He is always looking for something to get into or
someplace to escape from. Just seeing him brings a smile to my
face."
Christine Carrieri, director of the center, said Chester was always a
big attraction - and the turnout at his party proves it. "We were
delighted that so many peopled showed up . . . I guess Chester is a
special pony and he has positively affected the lives of many people."
In addition to gifts of apples and carrots, Chester's service was
celebrated with - what else? - a carrot cake.
He more than earned it, said Christine Carne, of the little work
horse. "His personality superceded his size."

Hello Rowan,
I have to thank you so much for
transporting Chester to Pennsylvania.
Jean Marie said he looked great when
he walked off the trailer.  She also said
that he is enjoying being with his old
friend and grazing in the pasture.  I am
so glad that you took him because I
was nervous to send him with
someone, but once I spoke to you I
knew he would be in great hands.
Chester ...would be honored to be on
your website.  If we had an extra copy
(of his article) we would send one and
have him hoofagraph it for you!
